The Robert Charles Witt and Laura Gutiérrez-Witt Library Fund for Latin America supports the purchase of library materials in all formats for the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection. The materials are selected as needed by the Benson staff in all fields and from all geographic regions of Latin America and the Caribbean. The fund was established in December 1998. The benefactor of the fund is Laura Gutiérrez-Witt who holds M.L.S. and M.A. degrees from The University. She served as Head Librarian of the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection from 1975 until her retirement in 2000.

The Witt Fund is named after her and her late husband. Robert Charles Witt, born August 24, 1941 in Tyndall, South Dakota, received a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1973.
