Lynda’s Library Endowed Excellence Fund

Feb 9, 2017 | Excellence Funds & Program Support

The Lynda’s Library Endowed Excellence Fund was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on February 9, 2017, to benefit the University of Texas Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

The Lynda’s Library Endowed Excellence Fund was a gift from Luci Baines Johnson in honor of her sister Mrs. Lynda J. Robb, both daughters of President Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson. The library will be a reading structure within the Luci and Ian Family Garden, a part of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

The Family Garden was established in 2014 by Luci and her husband, Ian Turpin, as a way for people to experience the natural world, discovering by exploring in and around ingenious structures like a giant bird nest, kid-sized caves, a grove of upside-down trees, a winding wading stream, and more.

Lady Bird Johnson’s deep connection to the wonders of nature continues to inspire her family. Luci believes that “The Family Garden will be a magical spot in the Wildflower Center, a place where all ages will enjoy coming. People in Austin love being outside, being in nature. The Family Garden speaks to the child in all of us.”
