Gaylord A. and JoAnn H. Jentz Men’s and Women’s Athletics Academic Excellence Scholarship

Jul 6, 2001 | Scholarships

The Gaylord A. and JoAnn H. Jentz Men’s and Women’s Athletics Academic Excellence Scholarship was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on July 6, 2001, for the benefit of Intercollegiate Athletics. Gift funds were provided by Ms. Lori Baze of Austin, Texas, Dr. Gaylord A. Jentz of Austin, Texas, and Mrs. JoAnn H. Jentz of Austin, Texas.

Gaylord and JoAnn Jentz came to The University of Texas in 1965, where Gaylord taught business law.

“We have been buying athletic tickets since we arrived. There were few women’s programs at that time and The University of Texas has grown immensely,” JoAnn said.

Originally, their football season tickets were in the student section. Those were the only seats available at the time. Over the years, they grew more involved with athletics and student-athletes, attending annual awards programs to honor the scholarship recipients.

“Gaylord and I funded this scholarship due to the importance The University of Texas athletes receive in academics,” JoAnn said. “Gaylord had men and women athletes in his classes and we both believed in their education.”
