“The debt we owe to the University has no bounds.”- Barbara Stuart

The Barbara White Stuart Endowed Scholarship was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on January 30, 1997, for the benefit of Intercollegiate Athletics. Gift funds were provided by Mr. John T. Stuart III of Dallas, Texas, a 1958 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. The endowment honors Mrs. Barbara W. Stuart of Dallas, Texas.

Barbara and John Stuart III describe The University of Texas as an “omnipresent” force in their lives.

“It is where we met, where we started our married life. What we brought from that is the core around which we have lived our lives,” Barbara said. “The debt we owe to the University has no bounds. Our plan was to try to the best of our ability to repay it with our time and hopefully our treasure.”

John and Barbara have given actively of their time to UT and to the community. Following John’s service in the Army, they moved to Dallas and soon joined the Dallas Texas Exes. Both John and Barbara have served as the chapter president, and both have been honored with the Top Hand Award. John went on to become the president of the University of Texas Ex-Students Association for two years. In 2000, he was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award.

John is a past president of the Cotton Bowl, president of the Callier Board at UTD, Life Member of the Salesmanship Club and past president of the Circle Ten Council of the Boy Scouts. Barbara has chaired the Crystal Charity Ball, and served as past president of the Dallas Bankers Wives Club, the Dallas Kappa Alpha Theta Mothers Club and The Dallas Historical Society.

John and Barbara started their life together here at UT and went on to change the world wherever they saw an opportunity.
